

This under-painting is called a grisaille. It helps you solve a lot of problems in a single dimension -- just one color. It's easier to see what things need fixing, if you start a painting in just one color. Later, I'll work in more colors, when this layer of burnt sienna dries. That way, if I don't like the way the color is going, I can wipe it out without losing this under-painting.In 2011 I’ll be teaching at Piedmont Virginia Community College Workforce Services, The University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and the PVCC Futures career camp.
Art teachers and learners are welcome to participate in these discussions. The aim being to foster creativity in teaching and making art. Over the last 25 years, I’ve gain experience that is useful to learners. Theses techniques, such as notan and grisaille, are important to discuss among instructors too.
